The trade fair for conservation of historic monuments in Salzburg
11 – 13 January 2018
Exhibition Center Salzburg
The sector of restoration and conservation of historic monuments in Austria promise profitable business opportunities. The number of monuments worth protecting in Austria is estimated at 60,000. To preserve these cultural objects considerable amounts are invested in restoration work. Especially the geographical and cultural proximity to Austria offers interesting market opportunities for German companies.
The core field of heritage conservation is the construction industry with classical trades like plasterer, joiner, gilder, church painter or parquet layer. In addition to these traditional professions the demand in particular for other fields like restorers of metal or synthetic material, installer and electricians is increasing.
Every two years the trade fair for the care of monuments, items of cultural heritage, restoration and conservation takes place at the Exhibition Center Salzburg. The fourth edition of the Monumento will be the initial event of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018. The focus this year will be on encouraging greater shared attention to the issues of cultural heritage, increased awareness of the myriad riches in our possession, and our preparedness to conserve them.
From the 11th – 13th January 2018 visitors can enjoy fascinating insights into the world of cultural heritage and the care of monuments, traditional craftsmanship and restoration.
There are three main content pillars of the Monumento 2018:
- Traditional crafts and skills and cultural scene
- Disciplines of restoration and craft techniques
- Departure to digitalization and mediation
On each of the three days, one of these issues is put under the spotlight, and is accompanied by complementary talks, workshops and discussions. On Friday 12th January students will have the opportunity to take a closer look at old crafts professions and talk to experts and potential employers from within the sectors involved.
As meeting place of private monument owners, restorers, conservationists, construction managers, architects and builders Monumento offers an excellent opportunity to establish new contacts. At the same time, the additional program of the trade fair with expert lectures and exhibitors’ presentations makes the trade fair an attractive, international platform for monument preservation, restoration and ground monument conservation.
